1. Obtain a Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) or an Affirmation of Freedom to Marry from your embassy or consulate in Thailand. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs must translate and legalize this document, which attests to your ability to marry.
2. With your partner and two witnesses, visit the neighborhood district office, or Amphur. Thailand’s Amphur is in charge of keeping records of marriages. If you were previously married, you will also need to provide your passports, the Affirmation of Freedom to Marry, or CNI, and documentation of your divorce in Thailand or death.
3. In the presence of the registrar and witnesses, sign a statement at the Amphur office indicating your intention to marry.
4. The registrar will then officially register your union and present you with a marriage certificate, which serves as your marriage’s proof of legality.
It is crucial to keep in mind that there can be further procedures if one or both partners are Thai citizens, such as acquiring a document called a House Registration Certificate, or Tabien Baan, from the neighborhood district office. Furthermore, same-sex marriages are not officially recognized legally in Thailand.
